It made us feel very safe and comfortable, like visiting old friends.

3 years ago I took my first Kindred trip to Berlin to Max and Raphael’s home with my partner Paul. The place itself was incredible, but it was Max’s warmth that made it remarkable. He recommended a fantastic schnitzel place that we still visit every time I go to Berlin. It was also very nice to see Max and Raph’s photos all over the place. It made us feel very safe and comfortable, like visiting old friends. We noticed they had a few board games, so we found a German version of one of our favorites ‘Azul’ and left it as a gift.

We always want our guests to feel welcomed, safe and secure in our home and have a smooth experience and interaction with us whatever their sexuality or gender expression.

As travellers we hope for the same and knowing that this will be assured through the circle is a welcome bonus to the Kindred experience. A part of the Kindred experience that we enjoy is hearing about other hosts personal recommendations for their favourite places to eat, drink and experience culture in their areas. When a host can share LGBT-inclusive suggestions this is even better.

It is a love we want to share with the broader Kindred community.

My husband and I are avid Kindred members, having lived in the community 300+ nights now hosting and traveling. It matters when you are in a home, and able to give a home, to queer people so that they are witnessed for who they are and not expected to assimilate into a heteronormative world. In our Boise bedroom is a framed wedding portrait of Brett and me. It signifies our love and determination as a queer couple. It is a love we want to share with the broader Kindred community.

Love being a part of the Kindred community

My wife & I host regularly in our Brooklyn home + travel regularly with Kindred as queer people, and would love to share that experience with others and ensure other LGBTQ+ people know that they are welcome & safe in this network!

Rachael

One of my great joys has been hosting and being hosted by the Kindred LGBTQIA+ community.

It’s a smaller community within Kindred, so there is joy in making these connections across the world.

Questions? We’re here to help

Can I use Kindred if I am a renter, not a homeowner?

Absolutely! Because there is no cash exchange between members, using Kindred is not the same as listing your home on a short-term rental website. It’s more similar to letting a friend stay in your home while you’re away. If in doubt, we recommend checking your rental contract or asking your landlord.

Is there a membership commitment?

There are no minimum hosting requirements or membership fees. Whether, when, and with whom you swap with is entirely up to you! All new members can book up to 5 nights when they join, so you can apply and try the platform first before making a decision.

Can I buy credits?

No, you can’t buy credits on Kindred. Kindred is strictly “give-to-get”. This makes sure everyone on the platform is contributing equally and keeps our sharing economy running. You can earn credits by hosting and or by referring other members.

Is hosting the only way to earn credits?

There are two main ways to earn credits on Kindred: hosting and referring. For every night you host, you earn one credit. Members can also earn credits by referring friends. Credits are issued once your friend uploads photos and their home is verified. If you’re light on credits, you can also arrange a 1:1 swap with the member at the same time, so that neither of you need to use any credits (they cancel out!).

How does pricing work? Is it free to host?

When you book a trip, you only pay a cleaning and service fee per trip. The cleaning fee covers the cost of cleaning your host’s home before and after your trip, while the service fee covers trip support, travel protection, and arranging all the logistics that go into making a Kindred trip possible. Hosting on Kindred is completely free and seamless. We’ll coordinate all cleanings and handle all end-to-end logistics of the trip.
