What happens after you approve a guest?

    You’ll receive a confirmation email after your guest pays for the trip

    If you decide to accept the request, your guest will have 48 hours to pay for the trip.

    Confirm a few home details

    We’ll have you confirm a few details (like bed sizes) so that we can ship your hosting kit. You’ll also set your access instructions and create your home guide. This is where you’ll add things like wifi instructions, house quirks, and anything else you’d like your guest to know about taking care of your home!

    We’ll ship you a hosting kit

    We’ll send you sheets, towels, bath mats, and other essentials that your guests can use during their stay.

    We’ll coordinate cleanings before and after your guests

    Leave the keys and we’ll take care of the rest! We’ll schedule one of our vetted cleaners based on your departure and return times, and handle all coordination with the guest. If you have a cleaner that you know and trust, you’re welcome to use them instead.

Hosting FAQs

  • Am I in control of who stays at my home?

    Yes. You are always in control of whether a member stays at your home – we will never book a trip without your permission, and there are no minimum hosting requirements to be a Kindred member. Additionally, any pets and overnight guests a member brings to your home must be shared in advanced and approved by you.
  • Do I need to clean my home for my guest?

    No! We’ll schedule a professional cleaning before the guest arrives, at no cost to you. We do ask that you reasonably declutter & put things away so that it’s easy to clean. Your welcome kit will include a guide with best practices for prepping your home for a seamless hosting experience.
  • What are credits? Do I need to swap at the same time?

    Kindred credits represent “earned nights” that a member can spend to stay in a Kindred home. We designed Kindred to be a give-to-get community, where you must contribute to the community in order to benefit from it. Members who host others earn credits that they can use to book a stay at a different home at a later time. Currently, 1 credit = 1 night at any home, anywhere in the world. Credits do not have any assigned monetary value and cannot be purchased or sold. There are only 3 ways to earn credits: Newly accepted members unlock several “starting” credits upon completing their profile Members earn 1 credit per night that they host another member Members can also earn credits by referring friends who are accepted into the community Additionally, any pets and overnight guests a member brings to your home must be shared in advanced and approved by you.
  • Do I need to remove my personal belongings when I host?

    Absolutely not! Our members understand that this is a home and not a vacation rental - so don’t worry about having clothes in your closets, pictures on your walls, or stuff in your drawers. We only ask that any unnecessary clutter be tucked away. Kindred will organize professional cleanings before & after each trip to ensure a seamless hosting experience.
  • Do I need to use my own bedding/linens?

    No! Before a member’s first time hosting, Kindred provides a Host Kit that includes all the essentials needed to make preparing your home for a Kindred stay quick and easy.‍ What does a Kit include?‍
    • A fresh set of guest linens, including sheets, a duvet cover, bath and hand towels, and a bath mat, for you to leave out. The cleaners will make the bed.‍
    • A Guest Essentials pouch packed with toiletries and items for your guest to enjoy. We partner with fantastic consumer brands like Aesop to provide high quality, travel sized essentials.‍
    • A Kindred lockbox, if needed, so you can securely leave key
    • A new, individually wrapped kitchen sponge that you can leave out for your guest (we know that sometimes having someone else use your sponge can give people the ick!)‍
    • A set of removable “Privacy Please” stickers that you can use on drawers, cabinets, or doors to indicate if you’d prefer a guest not use something‍

  • What if I have my own cleaner I’d prefer to use?

    If you have a cleaner that you know and trust, you’re welcome to use them instead of Kindred’s network of vetted cleaners. We’ll send you instructions that you can forward along to them on how to best prep your home for the stay. You’ll be prompted to let us know in the app as part of your hosting tasks once you have a confirmed trip to your home. You can read more about completing your hosting tasks & checklist here. If you do opt to use your own cleaners, Kindred will reimburse you up to a certain maximum per clean determined by the location and size of your home. Simply follow these steps once the trip has been completed:
  • Email the cleaning invoice to hello@livekindred.com and include your PayPal account name
  • We’ll send you a PayPal with the reimbursement shortly after. You’ll be able to see the current reimbursement maximum in the app when you indicate your cleaner preference as you fill out your hosting tasks.
  • How do I coordinate access?

    You can use the app to create access instructions for your home, which both cleaners and guests will follow. The most popular methods for granting access to your home include using a lockbox, door code, or leaving a key with a doorman. Kindred provides free lockboxes to assist you in getting ready to host, just ask for one.
