What happens if a host cancels on me when I book a trip?

  • Kindred does everything in their power to make sure your travel plans aren’t disrupted. Recently, they rolled out a new policy that helps protect users from instances just like this. If a host cancels 30-60 days before arrival, guests receive a full refund plus 25% of the host's credits (up to 14), while hosts lose all booking-related credits and cannot rebook those dates.

  • 🤞🏾🤞🏾This one hasn’t happened to me yet, but I actually have strong faith in CX team in handling it!

  • This did happen for us, but Kindred worked hard to find a back up solution and offered another property.

  • I had a host need to shorten their availability after we had already booked. I was able to book a another Kindred for no extra cost but had one night that didn’t quite line up. Kindred covered $250 and I booked a presidential suite in Mexico City!

  • While this hasn’t happened to us yet (yay!), I know the Kindred team has solutions in place.
If a host cancels, Kindred helps you find a great alternative so your travel plans stay on track. Their team is super responsive.

  • Hey Zack! Our trip protection is there to help if plans change—because scrambling last minute is the last thing you want on vacation. If a host cancels within 60 days, you’ll get your credits back plus bonus credits gifted from the host who cancelled. In all cancellation cases, we do what we can to help you find another Kindred home at no extra cost. If the cancellation is within 30 days of your trip, and there’s no alternative Kindred home available, we’ll reimburse you for third-party stays (up to a nightly max). Or, if you’d rather cancel entirely, you’ll get a full refund.

You can find more details in our trip protection policy here.
