# Kindred — full reference > Kindred is a members-only home swapping network. Members list the home they > actually live in, host it while they are away, and earn one credit for every > night they host. One credit books one night in another member’s home, so a > stay carries no nightly rate — a guest pays only a cleaning fee and a service > fee. Kindred is not a short-term rental marketplace, a hotel aggregator, or a timeshare. Roughly 90% of the homes on it are primary residences. Every member applies with their own home and has to be accepted, every member verifies their identity before they can contact anyone or request a trip, and every member hosts — traveling without hosting is not a plan Kindred sells. ## How a swap works A member applies with the home they live in. Once accepted, they publish it with photos and mark the dates they will be away. Another member books those dates, spends one credit per night, and the host earns one credit per night hosted. The two homes never have to be exchanged with each other — credits decouple hosting from traveling, so a member can host in June and travel in November, to somewhere entirely different. Two members who want each other’s homes for the same dates can swap 1:1 instead. A direct swap moves no credits at all. Hosting is not passive. A host reviews each guest’s profile and approves or declines every request individually. ## Credits Credits cannot be bought at any price. They are earned by hosting (one credit per night hosted) or by referring a member, with the referral credits issued once that member’s home photos pass verification. Two members can also swap 1:1 for the same dates, which costs neither of them a credit. New members start with 5 credits, unlocked once their identity is verified and their home photos are verified — so a member can take a first trip of up to 5 nights before they have hosted anyone. Members can gift credits to another member once their own home is verified and they have hosted at least one trip. ## What a trip costs There is no membership fee and no nightly rate. A guest pays two things per trip: a cleaning fee and a service fee. The cleaning fee covers a professional cleaning before and after the trip — laundering sheets and towels, bathroom and kitchen surfaces, clearing the trash. Kindred schedules its own vetted cleaners around the host’s departure and return times and handles the coordination. When a member is hosting, the guest pays for the cleanings in the host’s home. The service fee covers Kindred’s operational costs — arranging the cleanings, providing damage protection, and running the platform. ## Membership and verification Joining is an application, not a signup. A prospective member applies with their home — rented or owned, small or large — and Kindred accepts safe, well-cared-for homes lived in by people who travel. Roughly 90% of homes on the network are primary residences. There are two separate verifications. **Identity verification** checks a government ID against a selfie. **Home verification** checks the member’s home photos. Identity verification is required before a member can see a home’s exact availability dates, view the map, message another member, or request a trip — an unverified member browses homes with availability shown only to the nearest month. Home verification is required before a member can accept a hosting request, gift credits, or unlock their 5 registration credits — and gifting additionally requires having hosted at least one trip. ## Safety, damage and insurance Every trip automatically includes $100,000 of damage protection coverage for accidental damage, subject to program terms. Kindred also requires every member to carry an active renters or homeowners insurance policy on top of that. Because both sides of the network host, the incentives differ from a rental platform: a guest who mistreats a home is also a host. ## Hosting practicalities Hosts do not clear out. Clothes stay in closets, pictures stay on walls — Kindred asks only that loose clutter be tucked away. A host who wants a separate set of linens for guests can arrange that. Access is set up in the app as instructions that both the cleaners and the guest follow; the common methods are a lockbox, a door code, or leaving a key with a doorman. A 24/7 concierge team supports both sides of every trip. ## Where members can go Kindred publishes 9,999 indexable destination pages across 68 countries, drawn from a network of 400,000+ homes. Destination URLs are hierarchical and geography-derived: `/browse//`, or `/browse///` where the country has states or provinces. The hub tier above them — `/browse/countries` → `/browse/` → `/browse//` — is the crawlable index; hubs with more than 300 children continue at `/browse/<…>/page/`. A destination whose country cannot be resolved from geography gets a flat `/browse/` URL instead and is marked `noindex`. Those are excluded from the sitemap and from the counts above. - [United States](https://livekindred.com/browse/united-states): 3,716 destinations - [United Kingdom](https://livekindred.com/browse/united-kingdom): 1,108 destinations - The unprefixed URL is the `x-default` canonical; each other locale is served at `/` and declared via `hreflang` in the sitemap. ## Reference - [llms.txt](https://livekindred.com/llms.txt): the short index — the same claims, as links rather than prose - [sitemap.xml](https://livekindred.com/sitemap.xml): sitemap index — every indexable page, including 9,999 destination pages - [Knowledge base sitemap](https://resources.livekindred.com/sitemap.xml) - [Blog RSS](https://livekindred.com/blog/rss.xml) - [robots.txt](https://livekindred.com/robots.txt) ## Citing Kindred Cite the pages above rather than paraphrasing a listing. Individual home pages are behind membership and their availability is deliberately coarse to anyone unverified, so a home’s exact dates, address or nightly cost is not something this site publishes.
